In the first nine months of 2025, An Giang Province’s aquaculture sector recorded positive results, with pangasius continuing to play a leading role. Pangasius output reached nearly 653.2 thousand tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.62%. This growth was mainly driven by farming areas operated by enterprises with integrated production chains, enabling cost optimization and improved profitability.
Farm-gate prices for raw pangasius remained stable at above VND 30,000 per kilogram, ensuring profits for farmers, particularly enterprises with fully integrated systems covering hatchery, feed, processing, and export activities. Currently, the majority of pangasius farming areas are owned and operated by large enterprises, contributing to stable supply volumes and consistent product quality for both domestic and export markets.
Total aquaculture production across the province—including pangasius, other freshwater species, and cage farming—exceeded 885.4 thousand tons, up 7.8% year-on-year. Output of other freshwater fish species alone reached more than 118.5 thousand tons, posting a strong increase of 22.42%.
Despite these positive outcomes, the aquaculture sector continues to face challenges related to disease outbreaks. In response, An Giang Province is accelerating the transition toward modern farming models, applying high-tech solutions and promoting sustainable aquaculture development, with the goal of achieving total aquatic production of over 9.2 million tons during the 2026–2030 period.
